My Mom planted like that when I was little. Later when we farmed produce to sell, the squash didn't get planted in the garden anymore

The produce that we sold, we planted in the field instead of the garden. When we planted large scale we had more problems with bugs and blight so it had to be sprayed. So if we planted some in the garden the bugs and blight would spread to the garden and then the garden needed to be sprayed too. So Mom would just take the seconds from the produce stand and plant things in the garden that we didn't grow to sell

It's 36° and stormy here. A couple flurries. This is the first day I turned the heat on during the day.(One room) We turn it on during the evening when DH is here. I have the thermostat set at 65°.
The cold creeps in when it's so stormy
