I used wheat straw to control weeds in NW MO. That added much organic matter to help loosen a tight soil.

I put straw over my garlic this year and it started sprouting. We had to take all the straw off, pull out some sprouts that made it into the dirt and put in a different mulch. I think it was a pine bark thing, I think. IDK...everything is a grand experiment around here.

We have plans on having a year round herb, tomato, pepper, & summer squash garden in our sun room under grow lights now.

Add a couple of 5 gallon food grade buckets from TSC with holes drilled in the lower part of them and add a tomato plant in one and a pepper plant in the other.

I want dill, rosemary, basil, oregano ... maybe a tomato. Pepper, not so much. I have s very nice mint garden. I harvest that and dry it for tea. Hey! That would make good Christmas gifts, wouldn't it!

I have paprika pepper seed to plant maybe as early as tomorrow under the grow lights.

We use a lot of garlic here. I go through 1 or 2 bulbs a week. Seemed like a good crop to start, so this is my first year.

Yes, even in our golden years we can learn new things!

I didn't want the straw to sprout!!!!! Yes on the garlic. It was sprouting under the straw.
