Granny's gone and done it again

Hi everyone. Sorry to having become such a stranger. Life...what a concept.

Got sent to an orthopedic surgeon by my PCP concerning my shoulder that I injured last June. Xray and MRI later and I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday. Seems as though I tore up my rotator cuff which is why I've been having so much pain and lost range of motion in it. Well, guess nobody can say I'm not a tough old bird.

They originally had it set up for the 13th then called today and said they had an cancellation and would I like to it done on Monday and I said yes, let's just get it over with. I'm not worried about the surgery, it's all done arthroscopically but the recovery is 6 weeks in a sling with absolutely no using the right arm for anything other than the light exercises they want you to do before they start you on Physical Therapy. They told me at 6 months I'll be out of the sling and doing pretty much what I want to do but it will take about a year for full healing.

Only thing that ticks me off is that my PCP could have sent me to the surgeon last October when I went to him about my shoulder and I would have been pretty much back to normal by now. Oh well, at least it's getting fixed. They did tell me that I had really done a good job coping with the pain and decreased ability to use it but they thought I was more like 60 than 71 so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I heal as quickly as I did when I was 60!
I hope everything goes smoothly for you and you have an easy recovering

Thanks Cynthia. Prayers appreciated.

How was recovery for you? Much pain?
Actually not too bad. I didn't use any pain meds. Just the ice. They give you a ~fancy~ ice pad that fits over the shoulder.
They offer some pretty strong meds, for after surgery and for during therapy in the beginning. I don't handle pain meds so just did it.

I do okay with pain meds so I have no problem in sitting comfortably in my rocking chair and blissfully staring out into space as long as the pain isn't too bad, LOL.

I had so much pain for the past 11 months it will just be a relief to have the shoulder fixed even if I have to deal with a few days of bad pain with it.

Glad to hear that your pain was minimal. I have read both ways so it was nice hearing that from someone who has gone through the procedure.
Turns out I do have Lyme disease again. I went to the NP today and had blood drawn. More test results pending. Not happy at all. It takes a long time to recover from this.
Well, that sux.:hit:hugs

BTW, morning everyone. Busy day today here. I'm heading into Kirksville to pick up groceries and go to Wally World. Then home. Got to finish getting the coops cleaned out and set up so DH can take over feeding without too many hassles. I also cooked up some big chicken leg and thigh quarters that I need to debone and put into packages for quick meals.

Having the surgery moved up is both a blessing and a pain in the back side as I thought I would have a week to get it all done now I'm trying to do it all in three days.

Add to the drama around here, the freezer died without warning and the toilet started to leak. We threw all the frozen meat into two different refrigerator freezer and DH pulled the toilet yesterday and fixed it. Poor guy came out of the bathroom looking like he had low crawled through a muddy mine field but he goterdun as they say.

Y'all have a great day! BBL
