Granny's gone and done it again

Good Morning Granny Land. Disaster struck a few days ago. We lost our most beloved hen Muffin. We had just opened up the coop for afternoon recess and I had gotten seated to dole out treats when Muffin came over to me and to a few pecks of bread and sat down at my feet. She didn't want any more which was very unusual. 2 minutes later she did a gasp for air and then went in to what must have been cardiac arrest. She had turned 27 months old. For a girl that had a life expectancy of 12 weeks she lived a long and enjoyable life. Her favorite spot was at my feet.

On a happy note we finally got a break in the rain and made rounds this morning making sure the water fountains and feeders were well stocked. Form the coop door I could see a tiny head sticking out from under the broody Crested Cream Legbar. I carefully removed 5 shells from her nest. I think there are 3-4 more possible that might hatch. She is going to be a good mama hen as she let me look but showed her displeasure at me meddling in her affairs. I told her she needed to do better as 3 of those 5 chicks are roosters in the making. Watching chicks climb on their mama and work their way into her feathers seeking warmth and safety is just breath taking.

When you get up and do like you did today, you'll notice that you tend to tighten up that arm in the brace. At least I did. Causes pain. Your dogs sound like mine. They're such mama's babies.
Yep sure do and it sure do hurt bunches when you do that doesn't it?

Managed to get a t shirt on me this morning over my tank top after watching about 30 self help vids on YouTube so I could venture outside with DH to let the birds out. Discovered a dead black snake tangled up in the overhead netting that Hubby had to cut down and dispose of. Other than that. Quite day here.

Toms food came today. I am going to need to knock his meals down to once a day. I ate a BBQ ginger chicken breast, whipped sweet potatoes, collard greens and corn bread. I have a chocolate cupcake sitting here but Im too full for now! What a strange wonderful feeling to have so much food in the freezer. That's not counting the breads, bagels, juices, fruit cups, apple sauces. they even send the butter and syrup ect...

Food in the freezer is a blessing....till your freezer dies. Whole new definition of panic. Lol. that happened to us last weekend. Luckily we have a spare fridge and we shoved ever into its freezer and the kitchen fridges freezer and we were good to go. Mostly.

@Nomadicus sorry you lost Muffin. I think we all have a 'Muffin' in our flocks. Hurts like the devil when we lose them. You gave her a great life full of love. She was a much blessed little hen. :hugs
