Granny's gone and done it again

Just got back from our day in Cape. Since it's 2 hours away we make a meal of it. After seeing the leg dr and the osteoporosis dr we went shoe shopping for me at Brown Shoe Fit Co and had early dinner at - where else? - Olive Garden. I wanted some Skechers Step-Ins but theydon't carry Skechers any more (sad face). But they carry another step-in style shoe, another brand. I got some of those and 4 more pairs of my fancy socks that are so good for my plantar fasciitis (buy 3, get one free).

I got a shot in my left knee for the arthritis, hope that helps since it's doing the lion's share of the work and it gets sore and fatigued. And the other dr wants me to start taking Prolia, as I'm at that point where I'm at risk of a major bone break - a hip or pelvis or something. Def don't want that.

@Cynthia12 :hugs prayers, and fingers crossed for you.

My dad had one of the first double laminectomies and spinal fusions done in central IL back in the late 50s. He lived in pain for the rest of his life. I'm scared spitless of spinal surgery. I'd have to have no other options left to agree to it. I know, the art has progressed and improved but it is still scary to me.
I had a friend in the 80's who had had back surgery. He was my partner in the carpet installation business. Many a time I saw tears running down his face from the pain but he always did his share of the work.

@BigBlueHen53 I think you can buy Skechers direct from the company on line. Might be worth a try.

I have foot problems and my podiatrist recommended HOKA shoes for me. I have plantar fasciitis along with metatarsus adductus (aka pigeon toed) in the bones from my upper foot to the tips of my toes so I was willing to try anything. The silly things are ridiculously priced but feel great on my feet. Skechers and Nike's work also along with New Balance. I don't dare wear cheap shoes or I'm going to suffer. I just wish my feet didn't have Champagne taste in shoes.:lau

Thanks, MC! I know I could order on line but I don't know my size in Skechers. Believe me, I thought about it! At Brown's today I tried on one shoe that was a good fit in a size 6, but the shoe I bought in another brand was a 7.5.

I had horrible PF a year or so ago, went to a Good Feet store and got hooked up with their insoles system and it was like magic! If you have not tried them yet, I cannot urge you strongly enough, run, don't walk, to your nearest GF store! Or at least hobble as fast as your sore feet will take you! You'll pay a pretty penny, I'll be honest, but it is worth every penny!

Oh hey, and do try Feetures socks while you're treating your feet. Expensive, yes, but again, worth it! I look at it this way. I don't smoke or drink, I don't wear makeup or spend $$$ on fancy fingernails. So I can afford the $$$ on good comfortable socks that wick moisture, give good support and won't cause blisters. Your feet are your foundation. Take care of them and you may not have knee, hip or back pain. Or headaches, even!

Get your teeth checked/fixed before going on prolia. Dentists say if you get it once it stays in your system forever. Do your homework before taking it. I'm not trying to threaten you, but dentists are scared to fix your teeth once you take it. Doctors say it's not that dangerous and dentists don't want to be sued.... Or else just make sure you take good care of your teeth

Somebody here said Prolia interfered with their quality of life and they quit taking it. Who said that, and how did it do that? I really need to know. And what are they doing for their osteoporosis instead?
That was me, Blue.

I was on it for 2 years anf the longer I was on it the worse the side effects got for me. For over a week after the injection I suffered from fatigue that just drained the energy from me. All I wanted to do was sleep. Towards the end the fatigue would hit me randomly. I also had some severe joint pain that would wake me up and have me in tears and skin infections. It also affected my immune system and gave me brain fog.

I did get better results on my next bone scan but the doctor wanted me to continue with it. I respectfully declined. It was just draining the life out of my quality of life. He didn't argue with me just asked me to do some sort of weight bearing exercises and continue my Citrical 1200 and vitamin D3. I asked him if carrying 2 20 pond jugs of water 300 feet up hill qualified as weight bearing and his jaw dropped and he made no more demands.

Blue read everything about Prolia that you can find before you decide. Everyone is different but the side effects are more common than not.

Thanks, MC, that's what I needed to know.

What on earth does it do to your teeth? Details! I need details!

I already have all this, Chickie! Except for the skin infections. I tried to pin the good dr down on side effects today, and he didn't mention any of this. Bless his heart. But dang, I sure don't want to break a hip, either. Life expectancy's about 1 year if you do that.
