Good morning everybody! I'm so happy. I went out - on my walker, mind you - and cleaned my hen house for the first time in 3½ months! Well, scooped the poop trays anyway. Obviously has not been done in several days although SOMEBODY assures me it was done just 2 days ago. Sorry, not buying it. Anyway, they are clean now and I'm happy.

So yo. Question for all you smart, experienced people. I have another broody (may be the same one). If I gave her an egg now she would hatch it about July, ummmm 7. But I have 13 chicks coming on the 15. If I DON'T give her an egg, what do you think the chances are that I could stuff these chicks under her and she might adopt them? I realize I'm hoping she'd be broody for a whole month, but she was when she hatched her previous chick (pretty sure she was one of the mamas). I didn't give her an egg that time until she'd been broody at least a week. What do you guys think? Should I give her some golf balls to keep her committed?

Ody knows. Quoting Ridgrunner, "all animals are individuals and with living creatures you don't get guarantees." Right? So of course we will have a Plan B. We were planning to brood them in the house anyway. All we can do is try, I guess and hope for the best.

I think it should be okay because it takes 3 weeks for an egg to hatch anyways and then sometimes they wait an extra day or two for stragglers anyways so what’s an extra week? LOL BUT! She may not recognize them as hers or accept them. I’ve heard it’s best to do it in dark (at night) but I’m not sure. You could try golf balls to help keep her committed without risking hatching more chicks LOL

That's what they are. They stink like a dead animal so I will look for the ones without that smell next time. I remember the dogs on the farm sinking because they buried their dead animals till they were rotting and then they would dig then up to eat them. I may go back to esophagus and pig ears. They aren't so smelly. I do so want my little Betty's joints to get better. It makes me want to cry when she's in pain and those big black eyes stare at me with full trust that I know how to fix her problem

Brew would need the thick ones. Some are so thin lol although even the regular non odor free ones I buy, I haven’t noticed an odor lol
