Granny's gone and done it again

At least Sammy won't bark when he's on leash. I tie him now at night. He's on a 15-foot long line even though he sleeps with me. He can reach the water bucket and go pretty much anywhere he wants in the room, but he's quiet through the night now.
so with the 15 ft. he still wont bark?

Nope. As long as he has the training collar on and it's attached to the leash, he doesn't say a word. Jenny will go out at night and bark at the coyotes, and he used to go out and bark with her, but not any more. I'm really glad I discovered this because he would disrupt DH's sleep.

I think the paw/leg-licking can be self-soothing, like thumb-sucking. Sammy is hyper- vigilant... is that the word I want? Easily stimulated. One of us can walk out the back door, he can see us go, then we can turn around and come right back in, and even though he KNOWS it's us and not an intruder he goes nuts, barking his silly head off like we're somebody he's never seen before, breaking in to murder all the rest of us in cold blood. I mean, he goes ballistic and there's no stopping him. He won't bite, but he just won't shut up. I've about had it wih him.
That's what I meant about calming, soothing.
In this home I have to put the dogs in the laundry room when I leave. They bark the whole time I'm gone says Bronwyn. So, the barking is heard less in the laundry room. Cooper really stresses when I'm gone. Pretty sure that's why he is licking now. Not real often. At least he stops whem I say stop.
