Granny's gone and done it again

So how is Tom doing and how are you handling the prospect of surgery?
Not very good Im afraid. Tom either has UTI again, dementia getting worse or he had a small stroke. Physical motor skills seem to be ok so thinking I can rule out stroke. I am very nervous about having someone take care of him while Im gone.Having to put him in a home leaves Robert home alone. I was fine with the out patient stenting, 3 days not so much. Im already panicking over not smoking.

I am ok, but having pain from the Lyme disease. And I am going to the studio in Danville at least twice a week. Plus I have workshops lined up on some Sundays.
Hubby and I are fleeing this hot country, heading for the northern climate. Very tired of feels like over 100° every day!
MIL is almost to her 90th birthday, so I made her some gifts.
I hope everyone is doing ok. I will try to check back in about 2 weeks from now.

Well Poo. FYI if you think he has a new UTI, that alone could worsen his dementia symptoms. Always an SOP when I worked the living and rehab facility that if one of my dementia patients suddenly started swinging at people, fighting the aides or talking to people who weren't there I immediately got a urine sample and called their doc. If they didn't have a UTI they would be down with pneumonia in 48 hours. It was just a given that they had an infection working on them somewhere.

So while you can conceivably get care for Tom, it's the boy that has you worried. Is there anyone who could check in on him or stay with him a few days? A relative he likes or friends? I say this with respect and affection, Granny but you need to put yourself first with this. And ask people for help. Ask your doctor for suggestions and tell him your situation. There has to be agencies there who offer services for respite care that would fall into Robert's needs.

I understand your apprehensions. I had the same ones about my hubby being transferred so far away from home. The hospital in Kirksville, Northeast Regional is approximately 18 miles away and Liberty Hospital is about 154 miles away. Even MIZZOU's University Hospital is just 90 miles away. They wanted to send him there as the VA has their big hospital literally next door to University Medical Center and offers some of the best care in Missouri but everyone told us that there is such a nursing shortage since Covid that everyone has the beds but nobody has the nursing staff to cover them. Nurses quit in droves after the pandemic and nobody is chomping at the bit to enter a profession where suddenly you find out you could die taking care of sick people. So off to Kansas City we went but he had excellent care from first class medical personnel and doctors with a big round of applause for the BIG guy taking care of us all for seeing him safely through the ordeal. They even supplied spiritual care and DH bonded with one of the chaplains there who visited him three times and prayed with us.

I'm going to be your rooting section here and say you can handle this. You are a smart lady and know how to communicate with people...just look how many pages your threads have...so do what you do best and start communicating! You will get this sorted out.

Have fun Cap and don't be a stranger!

Oh geez, I hope not! He got a shot in the nursing home because someone had the flu. IDremember what it was though

OMG Robert doesn't like anyone. He cant get along with any woman I have ever known. He has 2 workers that he gets along with and yes, they do offer respite care but it would have to be here in the house . Someone has to feed these critters. Also thank you, it never occurred to me .
