Granny's gone and done it again

Could not sleep last night. :barnie So, I got up with Lacy at 2. Was going to wait until 4. So, set the click for 7 in case i really fell asleep. I did ..last I looked at the clock it was after 3. Not sure what that was all about. I do this once in a while and when I do I think of a few of you here that struggle with this. I can relate now. So sorry!
Anyway, good morning. It was beautiful out there this morning at 7. Worth it all to make it out to see this. The first 2 are in the back..the last from my front.

Good afternoon Granny Land! I didn't sleep well last night either. I was up and down several times. Pa has another cough and sore throat so he was restless too. He saw the doctor yesterday but the meds haven't had time to kick in. I'm usually sleepy and useless until after 10 a.m. Then I'm busy nonstop until 9 p.m. This afternoon I will put the last of the jalapeno peppers in the dehydrator, then help Pa with the coops until dark-30. Hope everyone is having a good day.

Still working on remodeling coops and runs. Making them taller so a 6' person can walk through a covered run and into the coops without having to duck. Coops are all 12.5 feet long by 12' wide and will house up to 3 roosters and 20 hens max. I prefer 3 roosters to no more than 15 hens. I've learned to use 3 roosters instead of 2 so that when the 2 dominate boys spare over the girls the third takes care of rooster business. Where needed I fill needed girls with home hatched Legbar girls. We've also got a new coop of just Legbar pullets paired with Legbar boys we picked up at Greenfire farms so the Gene Pool has expanded.

Another new coop is a dozen or so Bielefelders made up with 3 Older boys and 3 younger boys. The three younger Bielefelder boys will get a gentleman's coop soon and will accommodate 15-20 Legbar and Bielefelder ladies. If the Big Boss approves my wish we will develop a new auto sexing strain that lays a mix of pink and varying shades of green and blue large to extra large eggs. The genetics are there but it is a matter of the roll of the dice to get them arranged in the right order. We are very grateful to have Greenfire Farms close enough to pick up at the post office there in Midway, FL rather than have them shipped over several states to travel a little over a 100 miles as the crow files. I don't know how long Greenfire Farms has been doing local pick up for those us near them but it sure made us feel better about transporting our on instead of using the USPS. We will have to use the USPS to ship hatching eggs and perhaps even day old chicks later if plans do develop to our liking.

It's 96° and sunny outside in the shade of our porch. Time to chill until the thermometer drops to 92° then the saws and drills with a few boxes of screw will go back to work.
