Granny's gone and done it again

So yeah
 I think I will not be moving there.
The last couple winters have been rough. And yes... me and my chickens went through negative 50 wind chills 2 years in a row.

Vornado space heaters are the only reason I still have my flock.

Now watch this year be mild temps and heavy wet snow. 🙄

Well. We put poor Atilla down tonight. She has been broody non-stop for ... I think going on six months? A long time anyway. And she's been SO crabby and mean and miserable. I just remembered what Mrs. K always says, to solve for peace in the flock. Every afternoon when I give the flock their scratch and worms, I've been taking her off the nest and putting her out there so she can have treats too, and exercise and poop, and maybe dust bathe ... and she is so MEAN to everybody! She chases and pecks everyone, even the not-so-littles she just weaned a month or so ago. She's so thin, too. And stiff. I just think ... she's going to die. Obviously her hormones are screwed up. She shouldn't be incessantly broody like that. So. I decided to give her peace and end her misery. Poor Atilla.
That's sad.😥 I had a Dominique go that way

I was wearing 3 pairs of gloves too.
I'll never forget the blizzard of 1978. It started the day before as a heavy thunderstorm, and transitioned over to snow during the night. The next morning... almost 3 feet of snow was on the ground. You couldn't see out the windows, partly because of the drifts.

The drifts...went from ground to roof

No heat...no running water. We "camped" in the living room. Melted snow for baking and cooking (and "sanitary" reasons). Both the front and back door on the house was snowed shut. Mom used the oven for heat and cooking

As a kid... I was having fun in the front yard tunneling around like a mole

I felt so sorry for her. She was really fierce. When we gave her the purchased day-old chicks, I had to just throw them at her and hope for the best. I thought she was going to take my arm off! I guess that was a clue ... she was way more hormonal than was normal even then. She just never came out of it.
