soak them over night in water then boil until almost tender and then drain rinse and throw in the roaster with the "special sauce" bake until done. Soda helps "release the trapped gases" in the beans. I also boil them with some as well.

Then what? Put in jars and give as gifts? As baked beans? What kind of beans are you starting with, this does not sound like pinto or black beans, lol. Navy? Great Northern?
