Hi Red.  There are rules about road kill here too if it's an animal regulated by hunting laws.  They'll get ya for poaching, even if you aren't the one who runs it down.  My sis inlaw lived up in the Sierra foothills and a neighbor had a couple of mountain lions (legally, they couldn't be released for some reason).  She would often see dead deer dumped in that neighbor's driveway.  Come to find out the highway patrol would pick up the roadkill and bring it for the lions. 
if I why it's like that here. I've watched deer just lay there and rot for weeks until nothings left. Its ashamed to waste all that meat if you know that it just got hit. Seen it happen more then once here and wildlife would rather let the buzzards have it then you.

We put it back and as we were pulling off, the guy was loading it up.
