So my girls had an adventure this am.

I let them out to free range a bit last night when I went to get eggs. Forgot to close up their run.

Get up pre dawn let out the dog...think nothing of it.

Hubs gets up. "Your derpy chicken was in my truck". Wait what? Did you let them out? "No I thought you did". Quick headcount found sparkles again running to hub's truck (she wanted to lay an egg on the drivers seat), involved grabbing her and bringing her to the shavings bag so she could lay in there (which she happily did).

Hubs' crawler project truck remains free from chickens (for now. Though now that sparkles has found it...)

Girls are all accounted for (thank goodness).

Oh you guys play disc golf. Hubby & I used to love playing that. Then elbows got so bad from the bakery work that I can't throw them anymore. Our courses here a quite hilly ~ great of exercise.

Some of the courses in Iowa are pretty hilly. This one is nice and full of tame deer. I used to play a little, or at least walk the course. I don't like it as much as I used to. It's fun with the kids, though. My fil is a professional and does lots of tournaments. He also sells discs and pins and other supplies. He really helped DH get a toe in. Now DH has all of his young buddies doing it.

I looked really close. Just like you would a dog.. She has a couple tiny open wounds.. I'm gonna see if I can take pictures.
above the tail looks like she maybe is a favorite of the rooster. Damage being done by nails. That's if you have a roo, otherwise I would say you have another hen or hens picking her when they are on the roost. What level protein is your chicken feed? In the winter months when its cold, the birds need additional protein to maintain their body temp, make feathers & lay eggs. If their feed isn't matching their protein needs they will start cannibalizing one another. If that happens & blood is drawn they will all become vultures & go after the bleeding victim. Injurying her more or even killing her. Then they will proceed to eat her. I know gross, but I've seen it in my own flock
