you are welcome to ask any question you want.

as I don't use medicines myself I try not to use them with chickens either. unfortunately 2 of my first chickens died and I panicked and treated others with antibiotics. some of pullets died anyway so I am trying to avoid antibiotics. I put limestone and iodine in their water and it helped (fowl pox, both dry and wet).

as I know that people who cannot use medicines, like autistic, they use GSE, it crossed my mind that it can be good for chickens as well. I already use many herbs, acv, some garlic, etc and iit seems to help.

if you have better ideas, please let me know.

Since fowl pox is caused by a virus, of course antibiotics didn't help! Nursing care and vaccinations help in the face of an outbreak, not antibiotics. Mary

Thanks, I knew that and I didn't treat pox with antibiotics. I had some pullets with different issues but I knew they wouldn't make it.

as this is my 2nd virus outbreak I am looking what might help with viruses. iodine helped me with wet pox, I put 1 drop in chicken's mouth. I suspect 1 pullet might have a fungus respiratory problem so I will try GSE.

as I live in a mosquitoes area vaccinations don't always help. many people here that had pox in the past never had it again. my chickens only stopped laying, no other problem with pox and it has almost been gone now. they started to lay again, all survived. I am a backyard chicken keeper so I can afford to take chances. people who have farms must vaccinate chickens, I don't.

I have a question as well, this is my first year with turkeys and I notices little wart like bumps on the I heads and did some research, I now know they have fowl pox! Dry form. My oldest tom is getting pretty bad! What should I do to treat these guys??? A few of my chickens are now show in signs on their combs and waddles and some of my chicks around their little eyes! Im so stressed and everything i have read says its not treatable and goes away within weeks so I don't know....any advise would would great and thank you!

The reason to vaccinate for fowl pox is that in the face of an outbreak, birds who aren't yet sick, will get some benefit from the vaccine. Otherwise, it's nursing care as they go through the nasty pox lesions they will have. Ugh! I've never had it here (YEAH!) and only have Marek's vaccine done on chicks I order. Commercial facilities and people who show birds will do more vaccine for more diseases, but backyard birds don't face the same set of problems, unless you are out there getting birds from random sources and bringing home diseases to your flock. Mary

After you're finished with the GSE treatment make sure you give them avian specific probiotics to re-introduce the good gut bacteria.

you can clean their scabs with iodine, just keep it away from their eyes.

I live in Oklahoma where the floods hit pretty hard and ever sence the mosquitos have been awful! Would the GSE help with fowl pox? It all started with the turkeys and has now spread to my chickens...non signs of pox in my peafowl......yet.....I found this online and im curious if this will work. Some also have respiratory problems. Which all started when I bought a few hens and a rooster from the flee market.

I get chicks from 1 breeder only. they might be vaccinated for marek's, I don't remember what he told me.

fowl pox is the easiest thing I have been through with my chickens, trust me. IB was a disaster but all survived. love does miracles!
