Graphic, dog wounds

Do you have blue coat? I would but neosborn or peroxide do you have any iodine I would put some on therem
Im sorry but, I would not use Blu-kote on the wound yet. Too deep.
I don't use H2O2 either. Just a saline rinse if you have it or a tepid water (not too cold nor too warm)rinse to visualize the wound depth and bleeding area. I'm going to bow out now because you have a duck expert telling you exactly what to do on here
Good luck with your quacker.

Thank you
It does appear she lost it during the attack, just beware, if she does pull through she will not be able to swim very well (at all) and will be predisposed to many conditions and diseases such as ectoparasites, sticky eye, wet feather, and lack of exercise, etc.

Make sure to lay some towels down for her, and keep us posted.

I did the saline rinse and cut away some feathers. She got pretty feisty so I put a light sheet over her head and she calmed right down. The picture with the blue arrow shows where I believe her oil gland was 😓 she isn't dripping blood anymore and I have put towels in the tub. Thank you for all your help. I will keep you posted.

I'm going to a feed store. I know to look for the injections mentioned before but is there anything else if they dont have that? I keep reading about save-a-chick is that something that would be beneficial to her? Last question, should I do a saline rinse every day? Thank you all for your help and encouragement!

Sav-A-Chick, Rooster Booster, and Nutri-Dench are all great brands, and would pose some likely benefits to her, yes.

Lavaging the wound is usually only done initially, so no, just keep the wound moist throughout the day with the spray you have or a triple antibiotic ointment. Let us know if you get the Penicillin.

Should have mentioned that Penicillin should be given IM, so you'll need some small syringes and some 20/22 gauge needles for injection. You'll also need a scale to weigh or on so we can calculate the dose.

Ok so I'm not able to get penicillin. They only have vetricyn gel. Should I get that? Or should I stick with the Theracyn I have?
