GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Just marking my place. I've been reading up on the thread and am considering trying to caponize sometime in the future. We don't have much freezer space so being able to keep the birds longer and then butcher when there's room rather than on a maturity timetable would be great.

Give me a holler if you need a mentor, I'm in Louisa.

It's great that you VA people are getting together on this. That's a little closer to me than Oklahoma is!

I'm wondering if there's any interested or knowledgeable people in NC or SC. We are SW of Charlotte, located in SC.

Don't worry Mitzy, you did a great job. Have you done anymore?
I haven't done anymore, have you? I'll probably go to the Newcastle sale Saturday, maybe there'll be some the right age I can try.
Coral, the 5th green zip tie may be in with the others then and he was hiding when you were looking :)
How soon can we tell if they're slips or not? None of mine are getting any more comb development than 2 wks ago. I can't wait to find out lol

Mine looked good til about 5 months, then they reddened up and started growing combs again. When their tails start coming up, look out!
These were all varying stages of slip... but they all dressed out better than straight rooster, so no biggie to me.

Ksane doesn't eat her boys, she wants to caponize to have all her boys get along and not harass the hens.

Sheesh, I was hoping if their combs lost the red that'd mean they weren't slips. They might start comb growth then later?? Yikes.
I wonder what the percentage is of slips, anyone know?
No, I don't eat mine :-/ Just feed them :)

All the barred young ones testes were secured at both ends and the thread was almost impossible I think everyone ended up using the grab and pull method on those, the older birds were done by thread.
