GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Good luck with your last one.I would skip the ice pack deal the less time you are messing with them the less they should stressed.Seems like time you could be spending getting done so they can eat.

I got to weigh one of my Capons today. At 13weeks it weighs 3.5lbs.I thought that was pretty good.I caponizied it 7weeks ago they have been free ranging for about 3 weeks.I had one that got a impacted crop.Been trying to getting it feeling better and back out on the range.

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any poultry specialist in Colorado who could caponize a rooster. I live in Littleton and have a 5 month old cockerel who we'd like to caponize.

Just about to get started on my 4th rooster ever. The other 3 I did Monday are doing splendid, although the first one is air puffing pretty badly... It just keeps puffing up after I puncture it, any advice on that?

Here's the poor lil sucker I'm gonna do once he's finished icing.

Ignore the Popsicles, it's too dang hot in the house with no AC. :(

The deed may well be done by now but I have to wonder about icing. Do you think it truly has benefits? If it turns out to actually help the bird, it might be worth considering.

I know you have a lot of birds to do...I'll wait for your final report.

Good Luck

RON

Sometimes just pressure will help. I just carry them around as I am in the yard. It helps to push the air out. They should stop puffing after a couple of days. Great job.

Hey thr, looove this thread. I'm getting my kit next wk. Has anyone ever charged for this service? Any idea what the fee might be?

I would be cautious about charging. I don't know what issues there are about "practicing medicine" w/o a license or other legal issues.
