GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

How did the class go? Wish I had been able to go.
Class was wonderful! Not everyone who signed up was able to attend, but sometimes a smaller group makes for a better lesson. Today's capons went to new homes with full crops and lots of energy. There were a couple of slips, but we didn't lose any.

I'm pleased as can be that our newest student completed two full capons, completely on her own, with skill and confidence. She had just a teeny weeny bit of help on the first three, but the last two were all hers. Way To Go!

Because we were all so busy with what we were doing, nobody took any pictures. I'll post pictures of some of the capons that are staying with me. Barred Rocks, Rhode Island Red, White Leghorn, Brown Leghorn, and Delawares were a pleasure to work on. The Silver-laced Wyandottes were more difficult. I'll avoid that breed in the future.

Tomorrow is Wednesday, March 16th.  If you're coming to the capon class, we're planning to start at 9:00 a.m.  I'm providing lunch, so bring yourself, your enthusiasm, a notebook and pencil, and a headlamp if you have one.  Also, bring a transport cage for your new capons.

Send me PM if you need directions.  You can also reach me through my website.  See my signature line for the link.

Hi, I was just reading through the last several posts here and was wondering if you had a picture posted of the caponizing tools that you prefer. I just caponized 13 cockerals two days ago for the first time. I have a Nasco tool set that came with a book by Loyl Stromberg for instructions. Everything went fairly well and they all survived so far. I may have a couple slips on a couple of the first ones. My main problem seemed to be with the tool kit and my big gorilla paws not getting along with each other. I already have plans to add a couple new items to the toolbox, but I was wondering what else was available.
Thank you

I sent you a PM.

The new capons staying with me are doing well. Below is a photo of the incision site for one of the barred rocks. The well-formed scab is typical for a birds at one day post procedure.

I want my capons on pasture as soon as they seem fit, and after one day in their comfy recovery cage, I decided that the group was ready to go back to their tractor. Here's a barred rock capon and a brown leghorn capon enjoying the grass.

For those who ordered tools, please know that I'm not ignoring you. I'll try to get invoices out by tomorrow morning. We're trying to solve a drainage problem, and there's a crew with heavy equipment here, so I have been watching as all the huge rocks are dug up rather than working at my computer. They will be gone by five, so maybe after supper I can get my computer work finished.

I just tried to check out your website and it got a major flag for being 'harmful'. Do you suppose Google or someone thinks you are corresponding too much with the Chinese or perhaps .............

Lol! I checked it out a couple weeks ago and no problems or warnings. I was looking at naked neck chickens awhile ago on my phone. Wife used my phone that day and the security popped up 'adult content! clean immediately to protect security!' wife was not to happy with me...until she saw it was from naked neck chicken searches. Lol!

I just tried it again with the same results. I'll just leave it alone. My Security might be wound too tight.

I just tried it and nothing. looks like maybe it is your security. One of the guys at work got flagged by the work computers for trying to look at a pickup truck on craigslist... it said it was adult content... we never did figure out what it was about that one posting that did that when most of the trucks on there were fine to look at...
