GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Mine won't be ready until Tues. I hope you do well on yours too.

Mine was a very kind gift from my mentor.
Well, good luck on Tuesday.

I was thinking somebody posted about the cost.....with all of the fees, postage, and commission. I'll go back and see if I can find it. Thanks!

If you order straight from the Chinese capon site I think it is around $70, but poco pollo found a place to order from in China that is significantly cheaper, like in the $30-40 range, even w/ shipping. She just ordered for a group, if you pm her she can let you know the details. When you order from her contact you have to make two payments, the first for the item, then he buys the item and finds out the shipping to let you know what the shipping is, after you make that payment he ships.

I have my boys separated out today. They are beginning their fast. Of the 11 young chicks 7 I am positive are boys (they are separated) 2 others I am not sure are girls, but they fell on the girl side of the line today. They are not as young as I wanted to do, but life got in my way.
Good luck. I am thinking of ordering a Chinese kit, right now I have three boys that need to go so I can practice on them after I bleed them. Just thinking the first time might be good to practice. I hve a batch of egggs due this week but I don't count them before they hatch

Kassaundra thanks for the great thread.

Thanks for the info, I will check it out....
Same here, this sounds like it's worth a try.

This was my first time reading the posts, yep all of them. Long read but worth it.

Your welcome everyone.

It is a long read but worth it there are little nuggets (lol no pun intended) sprinkled throughout the thread.

Kassaundra,

Did you get your boys done today?? I hope everything went well.

Got all 6 of mine done, but two of these guys were too old....16 weeks (YIKES!! It looks even worse when typed out!), but not crowing. I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't bleed much. Two are12 weeks, and two are 9 weeks. One of the oldest guys is huge. I thought about leaving him intact because he was so heavy bodied even though he is a mixed breed.....but the last thing I need is another rooster. Hopefully he is a full capon.....he will have a lot of meat on him.

I have one slip for certain...one of the middle ones. Have you guys ever had one of your cockerels with a solid black testicle??! I had never seen that before....sometimes gray, sometimes with a black spot, but never completely black. That was the one I had trouble with. I couldn't free it up from the connective tissue, so I had to pull it out in pieces...and it was black all the way through. I had read that they could be black.

I was able to get everything out from the right side, which was very surprising, except for the slip. The black testicle was the left one, so I just got out what I could from the right side along with the right one, and closed everything up. I wonder if some kind of hemorrhage had occurred in it......wish I knew what causes that.

I have 4 more to do....two boys and two girls.....I just have to take them away from their mama.

Let us know how yours went.

I have had several w/ solid black testes, and some w/ black "splotched" testes. I have had several that seem to be attatched along the entire long side and they are HARD to get out.

I did not. I woke today w/ stomach bug, was going to try and power through, but then got some potentially really bad news that kinda knocked wind out of my sails for the day. With the bad news and the spewing I just couldn't bring myself to do it.

My potential bad news is my 3 year old niece may have lymphoma cancer. Nothing is sure right now and it is going to be a grueling couple of weeks until we have all tests done and results back.

I am so sorry to hear about your niece. I will pray that God will touch her and that this is just a false alarm. Waiting is a horrible, especially if you are in the medical field, because your brain always goes horrible places.

I hope you stomach is feeling better, too.

Have the black ones seemed harded to get out? It almost seemed like this one was scarred down and stuck.

I remember you mentioning that the Chinese who caponize only secure one leg, and the bottom(left) one is pulled up against the body. I think I know why. With that leg pulled up against the body, I believe it moves the left testicle out from behind the vena cava, and kinda swings it around where it can be easily accessed. Notice I said, "I think".....that usually gets me in trouble....LOL.
