GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Are any of the tools in the kits available similar to this?
The triangular forceps came with an antique Beouy set. They are available today, but are known as Pennington Forceps generally used in body piercing. Can be found via
Google or Ebay.

I have read that they get unusually long feathering.
Yes the feathering gets longer with age. >9 months.

You know, I saw several pairs of the Pennington forceps on Ebay, and my thoughts were the size of them. I think there are different ones, but was unsure what would be best, and getting them into such a small opening with the very young cockerels.

The following thread has pictures of caponizing tools from China. There are two sets, one for young birds, .5-.75kg bird, and one for roosters. There are 3 items in the first kit, and 5 in the second. They have different forceps in it

Post #55 shows both sets. The set in the Poultry Science article used a Pennington-type forceps. I looked at those closely, and it seemed like the ends were a bit curved, but it may just be the photo.....or my eyes. The forceps in the photo measured 12 mm in width on the end, so that would be a little less than 1/2 inch.

I have a 21 week-old capon who seems to have really long feathering for that age. He is mixed, from one of my French Black Copper Marans and a Lavender Orpington, and is solid black with feathered legs and seemingly very long feathers. I will get a picture and post it.

Thank you about my niece. She has already beaten odds in a big way. She was born w/ a heart condition that was going to require open chested surgery to fix, they were letting her get older and stronger and were planning on doing the surgery shortly after her 1st birthday, when she went in for presurgery testing it was found to have self resolved, they never viewed that as a possibility.

My stomach issue is still an issue

Yes, I agree the leg placement is to adjust organ placement for better positioning for teste removal, we both (mentor and I) noticed that last time.
Prayers for your niece. So young for such a heavy burden.

Kass - are you going to have some time next Sunday for a C meeting? I've got lots of little ones at five, six, and seven weeks. We can meet here or at your place. If not, I'll plan to do all of mine here next Saturday.

I think next Sunday will work fine for me. But I will be dog sitting for my brother in law so won't have any place to take the dogs out of the way. I only have a few to do so do you mind if I bring mine and we do it at your place? I can help you knock yours out too, and we can take updated pics of the new techniques.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Bring your birds and we'll have a capon party.

Drat, drat, drat! Plans have changed. MIL is recovering from back surgery. We're headed to OKC to help boost her spirits. I sent you a PM.

Charley - I sent you a PM as well.

Maybe we can meet on November 3rd.

Roasted that AWB capon (slip) with the redder comb last week - awesome good chicken! I know why the French are so proud of them now.
6.5lb, nice fat, beautiful carcass, really well proportioned... I have pics that I will try to post up.
