The two birds I caponized for a friend went home yesterday. They were both eating and drinking normally, and both had good strong scabs formed after just one day. I used a spritz of Vetricin on each incision. I did not stitch any of the incisions. I'd pulled the skin to one side before making the incision so that when the skin was released, the two openings would not be aligned. I'll update their progress as I get news from the owner.

This is what I want to do. I "played around" with this idea when I did mine but chickened out after the procedure -- the wound looked too big and the skin incision was not as far away from the cavity opening as I would have liked (ie. I lost my nerve). I ended up stitching and they healed up. Great job Poco Pollo. You are definitely leading the posse around the curve.

The last ones I did I did not stitch, and I think it did went better, healed fast much less wind puffs then when I stitched them closed.

This is what I want to do. I used LocTite superglue. Works great as long as you get the edges close, keep your gloves out of the way, use small amounts, and get it completely dry before you let the wing down against it to prevent feathers from sticking. I left a very small opening on one end so the air could escape to help prevent wind puffs.....seemed to work. Early on, the incisions were bigger, and like you, I wasn't comfortable with the size of the opening. Hopefully a different retractor will help me with that, and I can just leave open.

W O W -- no wonder they took these down. No need to go to their seminar. Thanks for the link BCM. Definitely will try it again. eBay has the polyp removers for ~$10. Will just need to figure out how to shorten the 230cm (7'6") length -- I at least want to see the bird when I'm working on it

I've seen the pics of the tools you have and the others -- gave me a few ideas. May end up making my own.
