GRAPHIC PICS of my day learning to caponize

Pics
First a Big Thumbs up for posting this! This is a forum for meat birds, and few meats are sweeter than capon. I couldn't find anyone to teach me, but do have a friend who owns a small processing plant where they do Poussin's. He let me practice on some dead birds prior to processing and this was extremely helpful. I have now caponized 24 live birds with only 2 losses ( I actually expected to lose more and have had to expand their coop & run). I also purchased the same retractor from eBay. At the same time I purchased an antique set which worked incredibly well. I am having the extra prongs on the weitlaner ground off to leave just 1 and 2 "teeth" which I think will work better and help minimize the incision and spread. For me the hardest part of the procedure was working up the nerve, but once I started I found it really wasn't very hard. I also stitched my birds, but am curious if anyone has done this without sutures; which most of the lit say is unnecessary.

Same here bought mine on Ebay you can get them for around $10-15 plus shipping, sometimes less.
. Thanks..... I looked it up and found them right away, just $8.00 + $9.00 shipping. :lau but if they work better I have a better shot at keeping my boys. Your thread is SOOOO helpful thanks again
