I think weasel too. The remains are all signs of weasel damage (primarily head/neck damage). I'm so sorry for your loss. Weasels can be tough to catch. Make sure if you try a box or live trap to put it against something. They run along the edge of stuff, not in the open. Most catches are by luck. Good luck! I hope your survivor is doing ok.

We added a mirror next to her and she's been talking away to "the other chicken". The mirror really seemed to lift her spirits. I'm so glad that we found her before nightfall or they probably would have came back for her.

i agree, weasel or mink! grew up in western pa and we had them there. they usually do go for the neck. and the mink anyway will dig a den into creek and pond banks, not sure about weasels but theyre real similar. if theres no other animals around that can get into it you might try poison. friend of mine used what he called fly bait? idk but he got it at the feedmill and swore itd drop a coon within 5 ft of the pan. its just an idea cause ive never done it but maybe someone on here has

I have set the fly bait out at dark after something got in the coop and stole egg's a hen was sitting on. I made sure everybody was locked up tight and set the bait out and then before the sun came up I went to pick the bait up and not more than 2ft away was a possum dead. Since then we have set live traps and have caught 3 possum's and one very large wild cat.

It's called Golden Malrin I bought it at our farm supply store and I mixed about 1/4 cup with a little dog food and a little beer.

We had the same thing happen to us when we first started out. 4/5 chicks killed at about 8 weeks of age. The remaining one was huddled up next to a dead body of one of them when we found them. We now have 11 total (10 in addition to the remaining one). The remaining survivor is very special to us, but she has definitely been scarred for life as she's very skiddish.

Ok, so I've been reading up on minks and weasels and I keep seeing that minks have a smell similar to a skunk.

Funny thing is that for about the last 2 months, my husband and I have been complaining about the skunk smell that permeates the air on our property every single night...

Most of you have said weasel or mink...and so I'm thinking it just might be a mink instead of a weasel...

I don't currently have a live trap, but I also don't have anything in my coop / run at the moment. Do you suggest that I bait some chicken livers or something with poison and try to get it that way? (I buried the birds right after I took pics by the way)
