Grass (Do not ducks destroy it?)

An old rule of thumb was to have no more than 500 ducks per acre. That translates into about 87 square feet per duck. Anything less and you will probably have maintenance problems.
Very Helpful. Thank You. I plan on giving each one of my ducks 100 square feet of pasture to forage in their enclosure. So just to clarify, with this much space for each of them, they won't kill all of the grass? Hopefully you still follow this thread Trenary Duck Farm. A response would be greatly appreciated.

I have an acre of grass and my ducks really "lived" on no more than 1/5 of it and the 10 of them did not destroy the grass, although they did pick a few spots to muck up around a baby pool. I think it also depends on the kind of grass...sweet, tender young grass is a ducky yummmy num, but they didn't seem impressed by the crab grass. My ducks are also much more bug eaters than anything so they were focused on that.

I move my duck pen every day so they aren't on the same patch of grass all the time. This keeps them from killing the grass, but they still drill tons of holes :p

My ducks free range in 130 metres length of lawn (amongst 21 chickens), they ruin the lawn.....they dig holes wherever it may get damp, the "mess" they create outta their back end is terrific. Also to bear in mind, where ever ducks are, their pond/pool/tray needs emptying regularly and this creates a lot of water on the lawn which they then delight in digging holes in with their beaks.....personally, I wouldn't be without my ducks but man...you need space and not to be precious about some grass.
