Grassboxes for runs?

Chawk, if you haven't already seen it, check out this BYCers run with grass beds. It's amazing...

Check with your local extension agent to see what grasses grow best in whatever conditions you have: There are shade tolerant, sun tolerant, fast growing (ryes) etc. And grass seed can go from inexepensive to REALLY spendy. Since you're not looking to start a golf course, I'd go with something with a lot of rye that grows quickly and gives the other seed types time to come in, normally the cheaper seed.

Good luck! If nothing else, the ladies love sitting on the netting. I think they like the breeze under them ...

What an excellent idea! I have several of these flats and handfuls of old tent stakes that will be going in today...

The ladies have been in the run for about 6 weeks, so there's still hope for patches of grass to revive!
I recently made a small 'salad bar' of scrap 2"x10", about 6' l x 3' w. It's at the sunny edge of the dog run, so I know the previous grass and clover will grow back, but I also threw in some loose leaf lettuce seed mix and some spinach seed since it only gets a few hours of sun a day.

I also have a couple of beat up planter boxes that will work really well until the bigger one comes in.

Again, a quick visit to BYC and I have all these great tips!!! Thanks Folks!
