If you dig the mound up for them then chickens will eat fire ant eggs and larvae. They won't eat the adult ants though. Fire ants are a pain in the butt around my fixed hen yard every year. Ant bait is very nearly the only synthetic pesticide I use.
There are some grasshopper species chickens won't eat. We have an enormous one called the Orange Lubber here. I've never seen anything eat it - chickens, fish, frogs, anything. Apparently they taste awful. The smaller green and brown hoppers they do eat if they can catch them. I just wish they'd catch more than they do!
