I just finished building my coop a few days ago and it's going to have a dirt floor for the deep litter. I put down two bags of top soil I bought at Home Depot to build the floor up a bit before I go and add litter to it. There aren't any chickens in it yet (just got my new chicks yesterday) but I opened it to do something today and the topsoil is infested with baby grasshoppers/crickets! My yard is full of grasshoppers and these look and hop just like them but are absolutely tiny. Is this something I need to dump everything out and redo? Or since they aren't mites and are a food source, should I let it go and see what happens?

My girls would go nuts for a feast like that. Sounds like a good thing to me.

Your new chickens will have a real treat when they go into the run! A very nice welcome present.

They are nothing to worry about and your chickens will enjoy chasing and eating them!

Well, I just let them go play out there. Boy did they have a good time! And probably cut the bug amount down by 95%, lol. They loved them. AHH, I love my new chickens!!

After doing further research, it looks like these are Springtails which must have come in with the new topsoil bags I bought. Regardless, they loved them!
