I just wanna say how grateful I am for so many things.
- To my two wonderful kids. Each and every day when they come home from school, they run out to the yard and play with the chickens. Yesterday, they noticed that one of our girls, Penny, was limping. They let me know right away.
- To this list and the wonderful help and information contained here. Once I took a look at her foot, I knew we had caught bumblefoot in the beginning stages.
- To the local feed store who knew just which doctor to send Penny to. It's amazing to know that there is an avian vet just a mile from my house!
Now, lest you all think that's not a big deal, I live in a city of over 100,000 people in a county with millions. This is NOT a farm area!
- To the doctor who knew just what to do to start her on the road to recovery.
- For the books I've read, and again, to each of you who shares your wisdom. The doctor took one look at Penny and said, "That's a beautiful bird!" She's just hatchery stock, but he noted how healthy and well kept she is. He later told me that she's one of the healthiest RIR's he's ever seen. (Just as a side note, he saw 10 chickens yesterday, so this isn't just because she's a rare bird in the office. Now I'm wondering who all my neighbors are with chickens!).
I've learned so much from each of you sharing your joys and trials and I want to thank you for that.
As for Penny, we caught it very early so she'll most likely be just fine.
