Gray Eggs!?!

I have two chickens that I have had for a couple years now and all of a sudden the eggs that they are laying have yolks that are grayish. We have been throwing them away because they look bad. Has anyone seen this before? They roam around the yard and free range during the day, but I don't think they eat anything other than grass and bugs.

The yolk color can be affected by what they eat. Is your yard completely weed-free? Some weeds, like Shepherd's Purse can affect yolk color. The eggs are probably safe to eat. They aren't 'rotten,' if that's what you are worried about.

Our yard is full of weeds. They go in the woods and peck in the dirt a lot too. The color is unsettling, but I'll try one.
