My brother lost two chickens in one week to a fox. He purchased a cheap tracking device from Amazon, and tied it to a rooster that was going to be culled anyways. The fox took the bait the first night. Tracked the fox, killed it and all the kits. Even got the tracking device back.

I shot a red fox almost a week ago now that killed 2 guineas... I caught it in the act of the 2nd guinea but it was too late. Luckily I was able to grab my .22 and dispatch her. With turkey season starting here Monday I will be keeping an eye out for any foxes or coyotes that come in to the call. I always seem to have luck calling them in at least once or twice in a season.... I would suggest buying either a rabbit in distress call or getting a cheap turkey decoy and a turkey call... seems to work well for me.

I don't have space to "confine them" I only keep young chicks penned in a seperate coop, I have like approximately 100 birds running around here. This is periodically since late feb. I just didn't know for sure it was a fox back then. The first time I visually saw him was maybe 3 weeks ago, at that point he ran from me, the next day though he retuned at hit that buff orphington, at like noon on the dot. day before yesterday my presense also thwarted an attempt. My point with that i guess is he's becoming very comfortable. I was going to cull some cockerels soon, but probably wait until some resolution takes place with the fox, gives hens better odds.
oh I also have a feeling this is like an adolecent male with no "family" the thing is not that big

Lots of growing kits out there to be fed...that will soon be big enough to hunt themselves.

if I had a situation like that going on you best bet I would be walking around my property while doing chores and what not with my .30-30 rifle over my shoulder ready to go. Your flock is it's food source so that is going to be the main place its going to go for for food

Yeah I like that tracking idea, i'm going to research that, but I'm getting to know his pattern I think. He'll probably return in three days. He got a decent size meal today.That's my best next chance i guess. He has always came during the day. I lock them up at night. I technically can confine them in a yard off that coop, but the run space will be vastly overcrowded when they all get off roosts. Also he has an undeniable fancey for barred chickens, 6 of the 8 have been. I have a dog that is actually pretty smart, he's old though 11 now, he's a well behaved dog that can do all the basic dog tricls plus a few others. He could possibly help in this sitiation if i could time it right, if he sees it i think hell track it. today he was mia during the attack and i went like a half mile or better into the woods in the direction the fox went, I found feathers about 200 yards out, lost trail there. went a total of a half mile or better in. got back and saw the dog coming from the other directio. anyway i took him tellin him "get it" where the fox exited the yard. well the dog went straight to the feather spot not prob, but after we went the half mine in i deceded he was tracking my scent, since we went my exact same route lol
