I bought some Silkie eggs from a breeder. These are the chicks that hatched out. The breeder said they were from their gray pen. Are these actually gray?

If they told you the birds were "gray" they maybe inexperienced breeders. Most breeders call the colors by their official names: blue or lavender are common "gray" color.

I would have assumed that "Gray" means the variety that is actually called "Gray" by the American Poultry Association.

Example of a hatchery listing with photos:

In this case, I'm fairly sure the chicks are not lavender, but that's as much as I can tell. Yes, I would generally expect a breeder to say Blue or Lavender if they have one of those colors.

Okay, would it help to have pictures of their breeders? I have some that I can share.

That probably would help.

(You will probably get more useful answers from one of the other people you tagged, when they are available, but pictures of the parents will help them too.)

Ugh, I'm bad at this.

I think the adults and the chicks look more like Gray (variety of that name) than like Blue, and I'm fairly sure they are not lavender.

But I cannot tell whether they are good examples of that variety, or whether they are some mixed color that doesn't have a name of its own.

Hopefully someone with more knowledgeable will chime in soon!
