Hiya chicha . I am in Australia - so I can't tell you where you might find them in the States. I picked mine up at the local recycle shop attached to our tip.

You can usually find them around corner stores, supermarkets - anywhere that sells bread. Although technically I think that they remain the property of the bread company and I dont want to be seen to advocate stealing

These frames are great. I am hoping to allow mine to have some free range time in our backyard each day. We have St. Augustine which is a very tough grass. Hoping it will hold up to them.

Awesome idea. I had wanted to make a "salad bar" for the girls. I think I'm going to get going on this soon. I suppose using treated wood is out of the question? I have some left after building our run.

I wouldn't think that it would be a problem. Lots of people use treated wood to build coops and barns. I used it to create my box only because I knew it would last in the weather much longer. The birds don't pick at the wood at all, so I don't see it as an issue. Maybe someone else has a different opinion.

I found your blog and was going to post a link, but found it already posted, so just bumping instead.

I was going to make a portable coop (tractor) but ended up getting a shed to make a coop out of, so this is going to be great for them to have access to all the time, for when I can't get them out in the yard.

This is brilliant! In my new-to-chickens naivete I had thought I could plant a garden in my newly-enclosed barnyard where the chickens, geese, and guineas (yeah..I jumped right in hard) roam. It became obvious that their deforestation abilities would destroy any attempt to plant. Now I am left with a fairly large area, 20 x 30 or so, and noting to do with it. This thread just turned on the lightbulb for me on how to plant something for the girls to munch on without them destroying it. I'm building some tomorrow! Thank you.

Awesome!! I wonder if I can just scatter bird seed? They have a nice yard, but I want them to have a bit of a variety... of course during the winter I will plant winter grass..

Would this work for veggies such as beets, turnips, carrots or radishes? I need my chickens to keep grasshoppers off the garden, but they love to demolish my veggies, even if I only put them in there for a short amount of time.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say that I LOVE this idea! I'm thinking about making a large section at the end of my run a grassy area with these frames since I can't let my hens free range with my chicken eating dog.
