We used a temporary fence that I put up while the ducks and geese were little. I would move it every couple of days and hose down the area. If we would have had rain that would have cleaned a lot of it up. This was all in my backyard which also has the kid's trampoline and playhouse/swing set. Goose poop was not really an issue. This kept me from mowing my backyard for a long time. Now they are on our pasture. When I planted the pasture I did not know that we would have an extreme drought. 
I have watered it and it is about the only green around. I suggest trying a portable fence.
In winter I am planning to feed hay along with the feed. I am also planning to supplement with greens that I grow from our little green house.
