Great Depression of 2016

I don't listen to Rush, however I would like to. I live at a place where a big set of electrical lines cross over from the other side of the freeway. We have so much static, radio is pretty much useless.

About the big four wheel drive trucks, they are preferred here by people that have ranch property. Roads are somewhat rudimentary and near non existant sometimes. People living on the reservations just about have to have them.

My youngest son had a big Dodge four wheel drive truck. He went to the movies. It was a double feature, and by the time he got out of the theater, the truck was in Mexico.

A year later, the border patrol caught a guy crossing though an arroyo with the truck. They had removed the seats so that they could transport more product. That truck probably transported product on a dailey basis. It was ruined.

This will not go down well. People get used to subsidies, and they think they have a right to them. Egypt is a basket case at best. I foresee a return to the donkey cart, but not until things turn very bad.

Now, think what will happen in the US when and if the food stamp program, long term unemployment insurance, government subsidised housing and all of the other give aways come to an end.

Remember the Watts riots?

Riots? Certainly not! The welfare & food stamp folks will go out and get productive jobs, plant gardens, and learn to be self supporting. (SARCASM FONT)

A few facts:
1. We live in a global economy. Government and American workers did it to themselves. Buying American, complaining about jobs leaving the country, etc - no longer productive or relevant. It's not going to change. End of story - deal with it.
2. With as many (if not more) people drawing off the government than productive citizens contributing to society, there is no way to achieve balance and stabilize our economy, let alone improve it.
3. When the **** hits the fan, it will be mass chaos - every man for himself. If government can't afford to pay the police and/or National Guard & military, do you think they will choose to stand fast in their posts or go home and protect their families?
4. Our country has tipped too far to reclaim. You can talk about educating people all you want, but if people would prefer "entitlements" to education, there's not much you can do.

Stock up on staples. Invest in lead.

In my little corner of the world most of the food stamp people you are sneering about work full time (or as many hours as they can get) for WalMart and other well paying outfits. The companies with the well paying jobs packed up and went out of the country. The ones that remain have far more qualified applicants than there are openings.

Firstly, I'm not "sneering" about anyone.

Secondly, see #1 above.

Now if they would lift the ban on exportation of crude oil, we would be in business. We produce light, sweet crude oil, but our refineries are built to process the heavy, sour crude that is produced in the middle east.

We haven't seen a refinery built in the US in years. People hate the oil companies, but they still expect to be able to fill up for next to nothing.

I remember the gas wars of the 1950's. I saw gasoline at 19 cents a gallon, plus they washed the windows, checked the oil and the tire pressure. Then they gave away free drinking glasses and a raffle ticket for a Caddilac.

My mother used to pray that she would win the darn car. The rest of the family would pray that she didn't.
