Great Pyrenees?'s

My GP was the best dog that I have ever had! I had a male that was perfect around goats and my poultry. The only down side of them is that they don't like long enough...mine lived to be 10 which was not near long enough as he was the best dog ever. They are perfect around children as well.

I have a female going on 7yrs and a 6yr. old male, absolutely the best dogs I have ever had! Purchased each about 4-5months old had them both fixed after getting the male, the vet highly recommended stapling their stomachs when they were spayed & neutered. He said big dogs were prone to run hard & then drink large amounts of water that caused their gut to twist & would die. Have been very happy w/ their health they probably don't eat as much and keep a healthy weight. They will run if not contained. I have a wireless fence system thet covers a 1/2 acre around the house. This keeps them out of the pastures and away from the chickens and guineas I recently acquired. They seem a bit too interested in them! Very loyal and gentle but so big they keep visitors nervous. I have had my male "charge " at a few people never biting but scaring them badly! My female stays right nest to me 90% of the time and I believe she would take down anything that tried to harm me. The male lets her be boss, even though he is a good 6" taller. Only complaint is shedding and barking. They do both constantly but wouldnt trade them for anything!

We have a half GP half English Mastiff. She is wonderful! Just remember GPs are meant to be livestock guardians, so they are different from a Golden or a Lab. Google them, read the info on the breed sites and maybe you could rescue one?.... There are some beautiful ones on Petfinder.com

I have done months of research, personally, I could rescue a wolf and not worry personally , however I have little kids.

Someones nightmare isn't my match..

Retreivers are bird dogs,so are my beloved Brittanys I want Tyke and Allie back, with children I can have none of them.

Every hour a bird dog needs is an hour that can be devoted to a GP and my kids as a family.

Having a dog that walks them to the bus stop and grows with them, a dog worth a call and a flight home from college when he's about to cross the rainbow bridge.
Not an oh well, one of Dads bird dogs bit it.

I have a GP/Black Lap mix and she is great. My little guy is rough and she does not have a care in the world. They are pretty laid back. The only problem is the hair. She has lot of it.

I don't think you can have a better friend than a Pyr. I lost my JoJo last December but I still have her son Mozart, I know my animals and son are safe. They are called "The Gentle Giants" for a reason, they are loving, gentle, protective, and just all around wonderful, fantastic dogs.
