My pet great pyrenees is not quite a year old yet and she's too playful, even with chickens. She recently killed one and injured another which then died days later. She hasn't messed with chickens again since then, but I'm scared she'll do it again and I don't want to get rid of her because she is a good dog except for being too rambunctious. I told my dad to build a pen to put her in to keep her away for chickens, I just have to wait for that. Too scared that she will do it again, and I hope that when she is grown up, that she will settle down.

@chickentrains i think she knows about dogs…
i don’t know much but my dog was the same when my chickens were around 6 months. He grabbed one and I gave him a nice little smack and he dropped her ( I felt so bad but atm my chickens were more important) he got a talking to about how he would be outta here so fast and he was great with them after that. Everytime he was outside I watched him, and when he was away from my chickens or being good with them he got a treat. Once my head hen had gotten full sized, she chased him all around😂😂 she got stolen back in October sadly. But even now with my new babies, he’s a sweetie pie and kind of just avoids them. Hope this kinda helped and good luck❤️

Was she ever chickens trained? You can't just throw a dog out with chickens and expect the to get along

Curious too? Treats and praise work wonders. I trained my dogs. When they were good and obeyed they got praise with a treat but when they were bad they were scolded and no treats. They catch on pretty quick. They really want to please you. Good luck...

Pyrenees take 2 years to grow up. They areknown for playing too hard when young. They grow up to be great protectors. If your dog knew what you meant when you scolded it for killing chickens, it might never again be a problem. They are good hearted, just strong willed.
