My name is Crystal I'm married and have 2daughters. My oldest daughter started raising chickens about 5 years ago. The youngest will only step into the coop if threatened. This last January my eldest moved out and left all 37 of her chickens (had as many as 50 at a time)behind. Before I only helped her out when needed now I'm a full time Momma Chicken.
We have about 9 different breeds.
We hatch our own to replenish the flock every year. About twice a year our Silkie will help. For the first time I now have 3 hens setting on 5-7 eggs each.
This spring I'm going to try to grow our own grains to make our own feed.
We also have a Doxie that loves to play with the girls.
Looking forward to being a part of this site.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like you have a nice flock, good luck with the broody hatches!

Sounds typical - kids grow up and move away and leave Mama with all their "baggage," That's a lot of extra work to handle. Is there any chance your other daughter might get interested in them?

Maybe show a lot of enthusiasm over the cute personalities or things they do. Bring one in the house for a bit so she can see how neat chickens are. I wouldn't ask her or prod her to help. Just keep let her see your enjoyment.
