Hi guys is this normal? my Ginger Orpington who is 22 weeks old called "Pat" Just eats all day! If I cant find her all i need to do is go to the chicken feeder and there she is guarding the food.. I got her from a man who had 10 in a really small cage, i felt so sorry for her i had to buy her so im wondering she didnt get a lot of food and thinks the food thats there is going to be her last meal! She dosnt need worming as all my chickens get wormed twice a year with Flubenvet. She is really healthy too.. She just eats all day... She is also at the bottom of the pecking order.

Hmm...sounds kinda like mine.

. She's probably just going through a growth spurt, and getting ready for maturity. One of mine is doing the same thing at 25 weeks. If you haven't gotten eggs from her, you'll probably get them in a few weeks!

BTW, what is a ginger orpington? Is it just another word for buff orpington, or a whole different type? Just wondering.

That would be my guess. i had Buff Orps from chicks, and they were so mellow and laid-back...but i just bought a couple grown birds from my ex-son-in-law, who decided he was going to start an organic farm with 90 chicks....no buildings, a couple small portable coops...his first time out...so yeah, i'm thinking they can be a bit aggressive after being raised in cramped conditions.

Ha Ha yes she is a Buff Orpington lol.. I havent had any eggs yet, she has a very pale face and her comb is very very light pink. She was very pale when i got her but has brightend up loads..

Aw Thank You... She has these funny beady eyes, When i go in the run she follows me all over, I think she thinks im going to pinch her food.. She is the quietest Bird ive ever had and she lets her stroke her.. She was very matted and smelt horrible when i got her so the first thing i did was bath her & Blow dried her and she was good as gold. Ive had her for 7 Weeks now..

She's looks like such a sweety. Since she is at the bottom of the pecking order I would be grateful she gets to eat all the time. My girl low on the pecking order has to "sneak" by the food when the head girl isn't looking. Silly chickens.

Might just be a growth spurt, or she might just be one of those really greedy chickens. I had one. Died early, laid small eggs. But she was so adorably fat I loved her so much! Beautiful bird you've got there.

Aww thanks.. When we got her she was really thin, matted and stunk! She's put loads of weight on now and is all nice & clean lol... I think she might just be going through a growth spurt too...

It's good she's getting healthier! Sounds like you're doing a fine job of looking after her. Maybe she just isn't use to all the good food and is stacking it on.
