Hey there! MuthaCluckah here from the center of the Plains, Derby Ks!
I am transplanted here from Los Angeles, but had to travel clear to just outside Wichita to marry a boy from Derby Kansas who's almost as crazy about chooks as I am!
We have a flock of 32 (I never do anything in a small way-go big or go home I say!). Mixed group of approx. 10 cockerels and 22 pullets, Black Australorps, Maran, Buff Orps, Dominique, Welsummer, Wyandotte, Leghorns or Red Sex Links and Turkens!!
So far the roos have established a boys club with a pecking order and they all get along reasonably well. Everyone has been handled since the day after they hatched, so cute with their egg teeth, and even the shyest of the bunch comes when called and likes to be cuddled. They are the joy of my life.
We have twenty acres here, and although at some point we may let them free range, for this year, they'll be in charge of keeping our approx. 150x100' raised box garden weed and pest free.
We're currently constructing their summer Palace which will be hopefully be replete with a clerestory roof and automatic nipple waterers and feeder.
