You call your DD "Doodlebug"???? My mom and dad called me that when I was little! In North Carolina, we had some little bugs that made a "sand trap" in the sand and if you stuck a tiny twig in it and swirled it around, the bug would latch onto the twig and you could pull it out of it's trap. I was ALWAYS doing that so Mom and Dad called me "Doodlebug". Gosh, I haven't heard anyone called that in years! I think it's sweet you call your DD that.

Doodlebug has been a popular "pet" name for little girls in the South for a very, very long time. Kinda strange when you think about it, because while the word is cute, if you've ever seen a real doodlebug, they aren't cute at all!

But I started calling DD "Doodlebug" almost from the day she was born - or more often, just "Doodle." Of course, when she needed a nap, she was Cranky Doodle.

("Cranky Doodle went to town, riding with her mommy . . . .") And when she woke us up early in the morning (why do babies never sleep late?) it was "Baby-Doodle-Doooooo!" (Ok, sleep deprived parents aren't the most creative!) As she's gotten older, it's more often "Doodlebug," which for some reason she doesn't mind - though I'm a nice mommy, and don't embarrass her by calling her that in front of her friends. Her father calls her "Bubbles," which she despises, so sometimes he calls her, "Don't-Call-Me-Bubbles." One of these days, she'll come up with a "pet" name for him, and then he'll be sorry!

The Princess nicknamed our daughter "Pickles" - haven't a clue where that came from. Our son was called "The Onion" - as in he stunk.

This was during his hermit stage.

Doodlebugs, aka ant lions are ugly but neat little creatures.

Well, that explains where my nickname came from! I was born and raised in Fayetteville, NC. My parents called me Doodle too. My mother shocked me the other day when she called me that! I haven't been called Doodle or Doodlebug in a looooonnnnn time. It was kinda nice to hear it again. I've seen real doodlebugs and no they are not cute!!

Yikes! I can see "The Onion;" unwashed teenaged males can make your eyes burn!

Hubby has referred to our kids as "the onions" for several years, something that has gotten him some strange looks from people unfamiliar with the joke. It came from a skit on Prairie Home Companion. Someone was playing a really bad actress in a movie where she was supposed to have a Southern accent, and she was having trouble with a line including the word "young'uns". Eventually it came out "onions," which Hubby (and the audience) found extremely funny. The kids have been "the onions" ever since.

lady, someday I must meet your husband. The more you talk about his personality the more I think that we must be brothers.
