You are absolutely correct.
You asked people to help you guess what "wild duck" this might be:

You offered that it was a small green egg on a nest in a boat and . . .

. . . you took it home and incubated it.

The thing is, cheyfrie26, I understood this forum to be supportive of people raising backyard chickens and other domesticated birds. What is difficult for me, because it directly challenges my integrity, is to be supportive, or "go along with" the possibility (in this case the strong likelihood) of violating federal law and in essence encouraging you to interfere with and keep wildlife.
Not only do I think it is wrong in this one instance, but I think it sets a bad precedence on this forum, because it in essence sends a message to other forum members that if they find a wild nest, we (the forum members) will support that, by giving advice on how to keep, raise, etc. And then where will this take us? Threads like "Where to find wild nests, and how to take the eggs"?
cheyfrie26, as I said to you in a previous post, perhaps you didn't know, but now you do. Please make a good decision.
We are all still curious about what you have. And, as bird fanciers, I am sure we all want the best for the bird, a long, healthy life.
While individuals may disagree on interfering with and keeping wildlife, my position is clear: because there are laws in existence, I will abide by them and I cannot encourage anyone else to violate them. Not in this.
I wish you the best. I hope this has been educational for you and others on several levels.
Warmly,
