Green Eggs And Ham!!~look what we found this morning~

Sunny Dawn, I LOVE those brown speckled eggs! What breed lays those?

Harrietsmum, who is laying the pink eggs?

These are some gorgeous eggies!

One of my EE's laid a blue egg today...such a darling lil thing!

They are tinted eggs from my Wyandottes, they are a cream/light tan colour.
I love getting home in the afternoon and finding a beautiful collection of colours in the nest box.

Hm, Wyandottes...will have to remember that. They are gorgeous!

When you say "tinted", does that mean that all Wyandottes lay tinted eggs automatically?

Those are from my Black Copper Marans (9 o'clock to 12). The one in the middle is a little dissapointing. All of the eggs should be as dark as the one at 9 o'clock. The other eggs are from my RIRs and there is 1 BO egg in there too, for contrast. One of my RIRs lays a super dark egg. She's a treasure since I adore the dramatic egg colors from blue to green to chocolate brown.

Unfortunately you have to be real careful which breeder you get marans from since a lot of people are selling "pure" marans when that aint neccessarily so. Ask to see samples of the eggs they hatched from if you're after the dark, dark layers. I love them all but I've got to have a few of everything it seems! Poor DH, I'm truly obsessed but he seems to feel it's a small thing if it makes me so happy!

Harrietsmum does that mean the eggs are not really pink? Is it just the pic that's making them look so pink? If they are that pink I think I've got another bird I have to add to my collection! I don't even like the color of pink normally but those eggs are gorgeous! My customers would love them!

I've even heard of lavender eggs occasionally occuring. A gal here on BYC has a hen that lays some. She said it happens when her hen lays a thicker bloom over a brown egg and if I could find a hen that lays those!!!

Those are so pretty! I am so jealous!

I have four EE, but they're only 4 months old, so no eggs yet.

I did buy a black copper marans a couple months ago, and she's been giving me a nice dark speckled egg every other day.

I'll just sit here and wait for the rest of my chickens to grow up, and then I'll have a fun selection of colored eggs.

I have 4 BCMs too. Wait til you get some green eggs to mix with those dark beauties in the carton! What a gorgeous combination of different colored eggs I have now! Can't wait for my Ameraucanas to start laying as well. Then I'll have a really pretty mix! I know it seems like it will take forever for the young ones to catch up!

Ok, I'll add a pic of my very first baker's dozen ...

What do you think? Three different layers in this batch?

Yep, looks like three different layers but I'm not an expert. I do know that blue eggs are formed that way but that the brown color is laid on the outside of the shell when laid so it is possible that color variations for green eggs will happen with the same laying hen/pullet. Beautiful eggs!

I got one too!!! My girls are 21 weeks and just started laying this past week. Today was the first EE egg and so far she's the only one actually laying in the nest box.....
