Green Eyes.

Beautiful! I love the green eyes, my orps had green eyes as chicks and I so hoped they'd stay that way but turned the usual orange

I think the green eyes links with the 'blue' gene in my chickens usually. It's the Splash and Blue Partridge Brahmas who started it with my lot and their progeny nearly all have green eyes. It has even followed in the Naked Neck X Blue Partridge Brahma crosses. The next generation will be on the way in Spring, so I'll see if it persist.

I have also noticed one of my Dark Brahma hens has grey eyes....she looks pure Dark Brahma, but maybe there is some Blue in her?

I have a hen who has green eyes, her parents both had orange eyes. Her mom is a mottled Cochin bantam and her dad is a buff brahma bantam. Her brother has green eyes too.

I have an adult red Star hen that has green eyes. She is the only one in a flock of sixty plus!. Its really neat what pops up with chickens. :)

I was just reading an article on Recessive Faults by Greg Brereton . He writes that green eyes is a recessive gene. That it shows up in soft feather breeds. He writes that sometimes the eye can be a nice shade of orange when the bird is the first year . then later on, the eye fades in year 2. He writes in this case it's best to breed from birds that are 18 months old. That's interesting.
Best,
Karen

This is an old thread but I have three 7 week old barn yard mix chicks with green eyes. None of my hens or roosters have green eyes. One of the chicks is a silkie

I know I'm late to this party, but when looking at one of my EE babies (5 weeks old) this morning I could have sworn he has green eyes. He's mostly blue and white with some black tipped wings. Think I'll call him Braveheart!
