I'm wondering if there are any gardeners currently growing green gage plums? I would LOVE to plant a green gage tree this year. We are in zone 5b or 6a. We are building a house in the country on an old homestead and we already have a very old Italian plum and a Mirabelle tree out there. I've read that Mirabelles are good cross-pollinators for green gage plums. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for growing them? Are they as delicious as everyone says they are?

It best you buy the plum at the grocery store and taste it 1st. I found out 90% of the plum that I don't like. You also need to find out if it is compatible with your climate.

I'm in zone 7 and I have two. One stays green when ripe, so the typical green gage, and the other has larger fruit is sweeter and turns a bit yellow when ripe. Both have a nice bite to the skin though. it all depends on what you want to do with them. I like eating the bigger ones off the tree and make jam with the traditional ones.
