green leghorn a hoax!?!

:S I'd have to disagree. I got my first chicken because he was dyed and I'm glad I did!

Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying! Bunches of chickens and ducks are abused in some form or fashon due to this. Kinda like getting a puppy then once it's not cute anymore dumping it. But the dying it's self is not harmful to the chicks health, just the novelty of it is. Although that's not always the case. But sadly a lot of times it is.

Does anybody know what happens to the male chicks if they are not sold as dyed chicks. I do. Think about it.

I partially dye some of my chicks for identification purposes.

exactly. by doing this people see these animals as less than alive. they start to view them as some sort of cute and cuddly stuffed animal toy. i understand that some people respect these animals and still like the "cool colors"... but this practice still encourages others to buy chicks/ducks/etc. for all the wrong reasons. will these dyed chicks still be as cute to parents/children when they get coccidiosis? or when they need real care and attention? do the people buying these dyed chicks know how to properly care for them? do they know the difference between oyster shell and grit? do they know that the oils in cedar shavings are harmful and that newspaper ink when it gets wet will release harmful vapors into the chicks lungs, as well as get slippery and possibly cause splay leg?
