Hi awake people! It’s 257 am rn and I was just outside coz it was raining and just had to check on my chickens in my lanai. They’re amazing but my silkie rooster is crowing away 🙄😂 sorry neighbors. ANyWAY the important part. I was looking at the sky coz it got real calm all of a sudden and then I was on my drive way and the sky lit up bright green (green lightning). Tornadoes I don’t know much about how they work in Florida (the west central) but I know that’s a sign ones on its way I think. What can I do to make sure my chickens are okay and is this true? Thanks!!

has anyone else seen this

Recent tornados in my part of north central Iowa brought lightning that lit up the sky like morning -- it was unnerving to see bright light breaking up the usual darkness. And, it happened several times within an hour.

One long-dead tree was ripped out of the ground by high winds, but aside from scaring the bejeebers out of me, there was little damage to my property; others close by were not as lucky.

Honestly, when tornados or derechos (the fancy term for straight line winds that rocked my coops a couple of years ago) are coming through, the thing I do most is pray. It's impossible to know exactly where to put anyone to keep them safe -- any building could collapse.

Hope you and your chickens are safe! Let us know, please.

Thanks! And my friend used to live in Iowa ( near Davenport I think). The sky hasn’t done any flashing but it is still windy about 23 mph. my Coop is agaisnt a small shed, and it’s got very big supports in the roof. I think it was just a “nature glitch” lol. Thanks again and ofc God is Good

I grew up in Florida and boy do I remember the thunderstorms. Florida has a very active atmosphere and can create tremendous energy during thunderstorms. I suggest you contact a local meteorologist and ask him/her the very same question! Oddly, I do miss those thunderstorms of my childhood.
