I just got some chicks from Ideal poultry, that were scheduled to ship on August 1st as day olds. I then received them today, but one of my barred rock males has an issue; his poo is green! I just got in hour ago, but it looks like the hay in the shipping box is stained green in a lot of places. What is this a sign of? What can I do to stop it? Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it yet. The stress of shipping can cause all kinds of diarrhea. You can put a about 3 tablespoons of sugar to a quart of water for the next day or two. Helps with the stress and gives them an energy boost they need after being on the road.

There is a new thing that some hatcheries are feeding their day olds before they ship that turns the poo a really bright green. I can't remember which hatcheries, but I'll look for it and post the link here when I find it. I read it a month or so ago.

Not to worry, it's just as leslieb says...Ideal gives their chicks a special gel to give them a boost for travel. I wish I could remember the name....

I just got a shipment of x-rocks from McMurray and the little fuzzies are dropping neon green "bombs". The hatchery must have just started with the gel stuff because chicks I got a couple months ago had "normal" poop... lol
