Green Poop Help!

Hi All,

I have a Copper Mauran pullet who has been pooping green for about 2-3 weeks. Her energy has been fine and I had been feeding her Modesto Mills organic starter/grower crumbles. I’ve given them fresh garlic and ACV in their water about once a week to help her immune system. Over the past week I’ve started feeding her like I do with my other flock, more fresh veggies and fruit end cuts (only chicken safe foods) from kitchen scraps along with feed in the afternoon. I have been waiting for my next bag of feed in the mail to arrive and went out and purchased a small bag of “Scratch and Peck” grower feed for her the day before yesterday, which is more seed based than crumbles like she’s used to, but the same organic type chicken feed. She has been very energetic and completely fine up until yesterday. She has been sitting a lot more than the usual scratching and walking around, and yesterday did not want to come out of the coop like she typically does when I come by. It has been hot but never more than 80 degrees where I’m at and I always make sure they are shaded and have water. So I guess I originally wasn’t too worried about the green poop because she was showing no signs of illness until yesterday and today when she just seems calmer…not paralyzed or falling over just less energetic, sitting a lot (I’ve checked for mites and nothing). Has anyone else run into Green poop as a regular thing or is this something I should be concerned about, and could mean she has something wrong with her.

I would say that is normal poop, but your pullet is getting more green things to eat than she probably should.

The other kind of green poop that would indicate a health issue is usually watery white mucous with dark green chunks. That would be bile and shows up when a chicken is sick and not eating.

Here is more on the types of poop and when you should be concerned. https://cs-tf.com/chicken-poop/

Omg! Thank you 🙏🏻 yes the poop is very solid just green. I dont feed her that much greens or green food so that’s why I’m confused as to why it’s green. Could it be New Castle disease? She’s doing much better energy wise now I think it was just heat related, but still pooping green. 😬

If she had New Castle, she'd be dead by now and you wouldn't be guessing if she was sick or not. Each individual chicken can have quirks in how they metabolize nutrients. She may be processing chlorophyll in a manner that the green dominates her poop regardless how much or how little greens she eats. Digestion is, after all, a chemical reaction. Her poop at this time does not indicate any health issues.

That’s what I thought as well in regards to disease that she would have shown signs or been dead by now. I appreciate all of advice @azygous thanks you very much! This helps put my mind at ease since I will be introducing these two into my current flock end of August when there 60day quarantine is over.
