I am interested in seeing any finished green roof coops, hutches, dog houses, anything LOL. If you don't know what green roof is it essentially means you have a garden on the roof. You can see pictures and benefits on my blog post about green roofs located here: http://thenewdaybringshope.blogspot.com/

I'm planning on doing green roofs on our dog houses, chicken/duck coop, and any hutches. I would love to see any that people have made along with a how to if anyone has done one.

I'm all about maximizing my yard so this is the way to do that!

I have often thought about greening my chicken coop roof, too. I have not done it yet as I still store a lot of stuff on top of the coop. Ideally, I'd have a storage area or box for the stuff on top of it, so that I could plant on the roof. I am interested in seeing what other people post about it. My roof is slanted, so I would have to level it out to plant, which might work well as an area for drainage. How big is your coop? How deep would you have the planting area? I would worry about the weight of the dirt and water. I wonder if I would need to add additional supports. Good luck!

You actually don't have to level it out to do a green roof. I have seen several green roofs that were on slanted rooftops, it just depends on what you want to plant.

I actually don't have a coop yet. I'm thinking of building one like http://thenewdaybringshope.blogspot.com/ the one on my blog otherwise like http://www.pinterest.com/pin/151503974938646526/ or http://www.pinterest.com/pin/146578162842286754/ but off the ground. I like the idea of a moveable coop too! That way when the chickens aren't free range I can have the coop off the ground and hardware cloth around below to give them a smaller yard area to themselves =) without them always picking at the same spot!

Oh I also don't think the planting has to be real deep, again depends on what your planting. If you go to my blog the boxes there are not super deep but they are plenty deep enough. Thats what I'm planning on!
