Green skin, droopy wing, but no wound - advice?

Our Gizmo (~2 yr Barred Rock) just developed a droopy wing a couple of days ago. Upon closer inspection, her skin was bright green along the joint and bone. After a second day, it appears to be affecting a larger area. We have closely inspected the wing and can't find any cuts, sores, seepage or anything. She seems unfazed by this, socializes with the other two girls, is still laying. We have put a small clothespin on her wingtip to keep it from drooping.

When we compare her green affected wing with the normal one, the green one is clearly swollen, but when we explore/squeeze that area, she doesn't flinch or seem in any discomfort. She lives a good city-chicken life in a palace house with her two house-pals, and gets to free-range a few hours each day.

I saw some other postings with the greenish skin, but it didn't seem consistent if this is a bruise (heals itself with time) or an infection (antibiotics). Can anybody advise if their chickens have had this symptom and recovered fully?

It's a bruise. Freaky looking, eh? The first time I saw a bruise I nearly flipped. I never expected bruising to be so...bright green.

It should heal on its own, but I would be looking around for where it could have happened. It sounds like her wing was caught/snagged by something and pulled. Make sure nothing can grab her in her coop.

Good luck.

Wow - amazing. We took your advice and waited it out. The bruise is now gone - skin is normal color now. The wing still droops, and when she flaps her wings she is a little bit off-kilter. I think she might have fallen off the perch (or missed trying to jump up to it) and hit the ladder in the coop while she was flapping. Probably a dislocation or something. She never showed any signes of pain or discomofort, even when we squeezed it.

Thanks again for the reply to this post - I hadn't found any clear pictures or resolution of a bruise before.

Thank you for posting the picture. I've never seen skin that color, so now I may have an idea what is going on if it happens to one of my girls.

Glad to hear she recovered nicely. I think I am going to use this post in the future to show what bruising looks like. The pic caught the color perfectly. Not too often does it show up so clearly.

Hey guys-- this seems like an older post but hopefully you can still answer my questions. I have the same thing, except on my chick's leg.

Her leg is limp and unusable. Advice on how to treat it?

My Campine Hen lost the use of a leg last fall when she (I think) got a foot caught as she flew off a straw bale with a loose wire tie. It just hung there useless. We isolated her in a hoop coop and just did the wait and see thing. It took 2 weeks to get her to the point she could get around at all. We let her out with the others (some jockying for position in the pecking order since she had been the top hen) and she went into the coop with the others and managed to get up onto the 3.5 foot roost. As of now (9 months later) she is pretty much back to normal with only a little limp (and she is back in the top hen postion).

I don't know that that is your problem, but you might give her a little time to see if it is going to heal. You will have to keep her away from the others or she will get pecked. Hens hate an injured individual.

Thank you so much for your response! We almost put our injured hen down because we thought she had an infection.

Super old thread, but thanks so much for the picture!

Our hen, Agnes, was bitten by our dog a few days ago, and although the bite itself looks good, this green-turquoise color showed up today and freaked me right out.

I'd never seen bruising like this before. Managed to get a few pictures to add to this thread! They aren't the best, but I don't blame her for not wanting to hold still while I messed with her wing.
